Jie Zitui's Hometown

Jie Zitui, a native of Peijie Village, Xiaxian County, Shanxi Province, was a virtuous minister of the State of Jin during the Spring and Autumn period. Because of his behavior of "sacrificing his flesh to the king" and "living in seclusion without thinking of making a fortune", he was deeply remembered by people and was known as "the first loyal and filial person in China". After his death, he was buried in Mianshan Mountain in Jiexiu City, Shanxi Province. His tomb was removed to his hometown during the reign of Emperor Qin II. After Jie Zitui died, Chong Er of the State of Jin command that no open fire was lit on the day of Mr. Jie's death, and only cold food was eaten. Thus came the "Cold Food Festival". Therefore, the custom of worshiping Jie Zitui during the Qingming Festival came into being, which has a history of over 2,600 years. On April 3, 2016, Jie Zitui's public memorial ceremony was held in his hometown, Xiaxian County, Shanxi Province.
