Founded in 1947, Yuncheng Central Hospital is the only Sanjia (grade A of first level) general hospital in Yuncheng City integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, illness prevention, health care and rehabilitation. It is the eighth clinical medical hospital directly affiliated to Shanxi Medical University, Regional Medical Center of Shanxi Province, National Resident Doctors’ Standardized Training Base, General Practitioner Clinical Training Base, National General Hospital TCM Demonstration Unit, National Drug Clinical Trial Institute, National Standard Chest Pain Center, Senior Stroke Center, and National People’s Reassuring Model Hospital. The Ministry of Nursing was awarded the title of “National Women's Advanced Collective”.
The hospital consists of two sub-hospitals, the east and west, with 1,500 beds and 1975 open beds. There are a total of 55 clinical departments, 12 medical technology departments, 35 administrative departments, and 2,223 active employees, including 427 employees with senior titles, 837 employees with intermediate titles, 467 employees with master’s degree or above.
The hospital has Siemens 3.0T nuclear magnetic resonance, GE256-slice spiral CT, Philips FD20 digital subtraction angiography machine, GE SPECT, Elekta 10M linear accelerator, GE E10 advanced color Doppler ultrasound, Roche automatic biochemical immune assembly line and Olympus high-definition electronic laparoscope and other large medical equipment.
The hospital has established ICU, CCU, EICU, NICU, PICU and operating room with domestic advanced level. Coronary artery bypass grafting, microsurgical neurosurgery and nerve interventional surgery, percutaneous coronary intervention, knee and hip replacement, assisted human reproduction technology, various three-and four-stage endoscopy and interventional surgery have been carried out.
In response to Yuncheng City’s "Feng Huanchao" Plan (Working from other places back to hometown), the Hospital has implemented the talent strategy of "Bringing in and Going out". The Hospital has flexibly brought influential experts and scholars of Yuncheng birthplace to work in the Hospital. 45 experts have signed contracts. In the past two years, a total of 26 international visits by young doctors, 9 international academic exchanges and 2 Peking University Medical Department visiting scholars have been arranged.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the hospital is a provincial key construction discipline. And there are also five provincial key clinical specialties, namely vasculocardiology, gynecology, neurosurgery, oncology and clinical nursing. The five municipal special medical specialties are introduced as follows:
Neurosurgery Department
Established in 1988, it is a standardized training base for neurosurgery residents. It is a key clinical specialty in Shanxi Province and a characteristic medical specialty in Yuncheng City. It is also a member of Beijing Tiantan Hospital Neurological Diseases and Interventions Alliance, a co-construction demonstration unit of Spinal Cord Surgery of Neurosurgery Branch of Chinese Medical Association, Glioma Comprehensive Treatment Center of Yuncheng City. The department consists of Branch One (blood vessels) and Branch Two (tumors). At present, there are 16 doctors, including 12 with senior professional titles, 4 with intermediate professional titles, 1 with doctor's degree and 8 with master's degree. The backbone doctors of the department have studied in famous hospitals in China. A rudiment of a sub-professional discipline has been initially formed. Through the “bringing in and going out” talent strategy, the overall strength of the discipline has been greatly enhanced. Neurosurgery Department of SCRIPPS Memorial Hospital in San Diego, USA has visited the Hospital many times, Director Zhang Baochen studied in Singapore in 2018; Deputy Director Zhu Jiabao studied in Italy in 2018; Director Li Taihong studied in Taiwan in 2019. In 2019, it ranked the third in the number of grade ii and iii neurosurgery surgeries in tertiary hospitals in the province.
With 68 beds, Neurosurgery Department is able to complete high-quality rescue and treatment of various acute, dangerous and severe patients all day. Various sub-specialties work is being vigorously carried out. The sub-specialties are introduced as follows.
Neurointerventional specialty: Appointing Professor Ren Shaohua from Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital as special professor, interventional embolization of various intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, carotid-cavernous fistula and stenting of carotid intracranial stenosis are routinely carried out. Nearly 80% of young and middle-aged patients successfully return to work.
Intracranial tumor specialty: Comprehensive treatment of glioma, pituitary tumor resection under single nostril neuroendoscope and intracranial tumor surgery through various approaches have been carried out routinely. The department has made great progress and development in the types, quality, quantity and postoperative effects of surgery with the support of distinguished professors such as Zong Xuyi, Yang Mingqi and Tang Kai from Beijing Tiantan Hospital. The surgery could achieve the maximum removal of tumors and the maximum retention of functions; thus improve the life quality of patients.
Spinal cord speciality: Routine operations are performed for meningioma, neurilemmoma, spinal cord tumor, craniocervical junction malformation, tethered cord syndrome and other diseases. In particular, minimally invasive operations such as microendoscopic discectomy through the intervertebral foramen, post-operative laminectomy and spinal internal fixation are being carried out, which are helpful to enhance the stability of the patient's postoperative spinal column and improve the spinal function.
Functional neurosurgery: Microvascular decompression has been independently carried out for hemifacial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and Parkinson's surgery is gradually being carried out. The effective rate of various microvascular decompression operations is 95%.
Neurological intensive care s pecialty: The department has independent Neuro-Intensive Care Unit and medical team. They have accumulated rich clinical experience in rescuing and surgical treatment of critically ill patients. They can carry out all kinds of emergency surgical treatment all day long.
In the future, with the support and assistance of Shanxi Medical University, we will continue to further promote the multidisciplinary cooperative comprehensive diagnosis and treatment mode of glioma. Various sub-specialties will also be developed, with a focus on the development of Neurological Intensive Care Specialty. We will continuously improve the success rate of emergency treatment for critically ill patients and improve the prognosis of patients. Efforts will be made to establish a regional diagnosis and treatment center for neurosurgery difficult diseases and critical diseases in the golden triangle region of the Yellow River.
Vasculocardiology Department: It is a specialized unit integrating science, teaching and research. The Department adopts a connected management mode from outpatient service to ward. Over the years, the Department has paid attention to infrastructure construction. Medical personnel are trained through continuing education, in-hospital lectures, three-level room-rounding system, discussion of difficult cases, and talent strategy of “bringing in and going out”. It has become a characteristic medical specialty in Yuncheng City with reasonable personnel structure, strong technical force, advanced treatment facilities and high level of scientific research, teaching and diagnosis.
The department currently has 95 medical personnel, among them 33 are doctors, including 6 chief doctors, 8 associate chief doctors, 9 attending doctors, 1 doctor with Doctor’s degree and 15 doctors with Master’s degree. Qu Yanling, director of the Heart Center, was appointed director of the Cardiovascular Branch of Yuncheng Medical Association. She was awarded the title of "Famous Doctor in Yuncheng" in the City’s first Chinese Medical Day in 2018. In 2019, she was awarded the title of "Extraordinary Talent" in Shanxi Province and "Teaching Expert" in Shanxi Medical University. The Department specially appointed Professor Jing Quanmin, Professor Yang Guitang from Shenyang Military General Hospital and Professor Xue Yusheng from Xi'an Tangdu Hospital as experts. With the help and guidance of the three experts, the work of the Vasculocardiology Department has taken to a new level.
There are 130 beds in the ward, of which 22 are for cardiac intensive care. Monthly, there are average 2462 outpatients and 421 hospitalization patients. Equipped with intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation machine, ventilator, monitor and other equipment, the cardiac intervention room has Germany Siemens cardiovascular imaging system, multi-channel physiological recorder, radio frequency ablation instrument, temporary pacemaker and other most advanced equipment at home and abroad. It is mainly used for the rescue and treatment of common, frequently-occurring and critical diseases in cardiology. At present, routine treatments include percutaneous coronary angiography, percutaneous balloon dilatation and intracoronary stent implantation, intracardiac electrophysiological examination, radiofrequency ablation for radical treatment of various tachyarrhythmias such as supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation, permanent implantation of single and double chamber cardiac pacemakers and biventricular synchronous pacing for the treatment of refractory heart failure, congenital heart disease occlusion, secondary hypertension renal artery stenosis stent implantation, etc. In March 2018, it gained the certification of standard edition of national chest pain center. In 2018, there were 4,592 surgeries and 1,611 stenting, of which 796 were emergency interventions, measuring the province's second level of intervention. In 2019, advanced techniques such as coronary artery rotational atherectomy, left atrial occlusion and radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation were carried out. Great progress has been made in standardized diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, heart failure and coronary heart disease, and fruitful results have been achieved in clinical treatment, teaching and scientific research of cardiovascular diseases.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Department: Founded in 1948, it is a comprehensive department focusing clinic and integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. It was awarded the key discipline of Yuncheng City in 2004, the only prefecture-level hospital in Shanxi Province that can carry out gynecological four-level endoscopic surgery in 2010, the key discipline jointly established by Shanxi Province and Yuncheng City in 2013, and the key clinical specialty of Shanxi Province in 2015. In 2017, it was rated as critical pregnant and lying-in woman treatment center of Yuncheng City. In 2018, it was rated as Shanxi province's key construction discipline. It is a specialized training base for obstetrics and gynecology for residents’ standardized training, and Yuncheng City's characteristic medical specialty. There are 44 doctors, including 6 chief doctors, 10 associate chief doctors, 13 attending doctors; among them 28 doctors are with graduate degree. There are 138 beds and 199 open beds.
Gynecology has rich experience in difficult gynecologic operations such as R0 operation for advanced ovarian cancer, comprehensive staging operation for early ovarian cancer, radical resection of cervical cancer with nerve preservation, extensive resection of vulvar cancer, high abdominal paraaortic lymphadenectomy, inguinal lymphadenectomy, etc. It also has deep attainments in the surgical treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, the diagnosis and treatment of deep endometriosis, the diagnosis and treatment of female genital tract malformation and adolescent gynecological diseases. Gynecology has won extensive praise from peers and patients at home and abroad.
Obstetrics provides systematic prenatal care, high-risk pregnancy monitoring, prenatal screening and counseling, perinatal nutrition counseling, newborn hearing and genetic metabolic disease screening, painless delivery and other first-rate services for pregnant women. The department has introduced advanced equipment such as T-combined resuscitator, pulse oxygen saturation meter, fetal heart electronic monitor, ECG monitor, neonatal radiation rescue table, infusion pump, delivery ball, delivery stool, delivery vehicle, ultrasonic instrument, etc. Good clinical results have been achieved in the diagnosis and treatment of various pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia, placenta previa, placental abruption, postpartum hemorrhage, heart disease complicated with pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, etc. It carries out uterine spiral compression suture, breech inversion, cervical cerclage and all kinds of dangerous placenta previa surgeries. The special clinics are twin clinics, gestational diabetes clinics etc.
Reproduction Department: Reproduction Department was established in 2013, and the provincial Family Planning Committee approved the formal operation of artificial insemination with husband's sperm in 2014. In 2016, the provincial Health and Family planning Commission approved the formal operation of conventional in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) and intracytoplasmic sperm microinjection (ICSI). In 2017, it established a specialized alliance with the Northwest Maternal and Child Reproductive Center and the Reproductive Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. In 2018, three ART technologies in our hospital successfully passed the verification review by the provincial Health Committee. It is the only medical institution in Yuncheng City that has approved the implementation of human assisted reproductive technology by the National Health Commission.
Outpatient services for infertility, test tube clinic and recurrent abortion clinic have been set up with an annual 20,000 outpatients. At present, the following technologies have been carried out: artificial insemination with husband's sperm, test-tube baby and thawing, resuscitation and transplantation. By developing new technologies such as assisted hatching, artificial shrinkage and blastocyst culture, the clinical pregnancy rate has been greatly improved. Currently 837 cycles of test-tube babies have been completed. The clinical pregnancy rate in the fresh cycle is 54.73%, and the clinical pregnancy rate in the thawing cycle is 66.84%. The clinical pregnancy rate is comparable to the level of famous major centers in China, ranking ahead in Shanxi Province and filling the gaps in reproductive medicine in our city.
Digestive System Department: It is a discipline integrating clinical, teaching and scientific research, a key discipline in Yuncheng city and a special medical specialty in Yuncheng City. At present, there are 21 doctors, including 5 chief doctors, 5 associate chief doctors, and 9 attending doctors. 12 of them have master's degree. Department personnel have studied in the first-class national hospitals such as Union Medical College Hospital, First Hospital of Peking University and West China Hospital.
The department has 56 beds, equipped with advanced electronic gastroscope, enteroscope and duodenoscope, and argon high-frequency electrotome, etc. Special diagnosis and treatment: endoscopic cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection/dissection (EMR/ESD), esophageal varices ligation/hardening (EVL/EVS), endoscopic minimally invasive treatment technologies (polypectomy, digestive tract expansion and stent implantation, endoscopic foreign matter extraction, etc.). In recent years, the number of diseases in digestive system has increased, and the number of critical, severe and difficult cases has increased significantly. Department personnel have solid theoretical foundation, rich clinical experience and rigorous work style. It has remarkable curative effects on liver diseases (various acute and chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, liver cancer, alcoholic hepatitis, polycystic liver, etc.), biliary diseases (various acute and chronic cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, hepatolithiasis, biliary ascariasis, etc.), gastrointestinal diseases (various acute and chronic gastroenteritis, functional gastroenteropathy, peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, etc.), esophageal and pancreatic diseases, especially in rescuing critical diseases such as massive hemorrhage of digestive tract, acute severe pancreatitis, decompensation period of liver cirrhosis, etc., with some technologies reaching advanced levels in the province. Department personnel have continuously improved their clinical technical ability and scientific research ability, and have published many papers in well-known national journals.

Pediatrics Department: It is one of the early clinical departments in hospital. It has developed into a key discipline of the whole city integrating clinical, prevention and health care. It is Yuncheng Critical Neonatal Treatment Center and a special medical specialty in Yuncheng City. At present, there are 23 doctors, including 3 chief doctors, 9 associate chief doctors, and 5 attending doctors. 16 of them has master’s degree. The two deputy directors have visited Israel and Britain for further study, and several backbone doctors of the department have successively studied at Fudan University Children's Medical Center, Peking University First Hospital, Xi 'an Fourth Military Medical University, etc.
The department has 92 beds (41 general beds, 6 PICU beds and 45 neonatal beds), and 130 open beds. It is equipped with five working units: neonatal intensive care unit, children intensive care unit, pediatric general ward, pediatric outpatient service and pediatric nighttime emergency service. It also has special outpatient services of growth and development, epilepsy, and asthma. The department has dozens (sets) of US Biochem6100 critical care monitors, blood gas analyzers, allergen detectors, percutaneous jaundice measuring instruments, blue light boxes, compressed pump atomization inhalation, infant hyperbaric oxygen chambers, CPAP, invasive ventilator treatment systems, various infant incubator and other large-scale equipment. It routinely carries out treatments such as neonatal diseases, infantile pneumonia, acute and chronic nephritis, various bacterial and viral encephalitis, asthma, infantile epilepsy, and infant nutrition and nerve development.
In recent years, the ability to treat and rescue critically ill newborns, premature infants and very early premature infants in neonatal wards has gradually increased. In 2017, it was rated as Yuncheng Critical Neonatal Treatment Center, and the diagnosis and treatment level of children with critical illness has become the highest in Yuncheng City. It has a number of pioneering technologies such as synchronous replacement of newborns, INSURE technology for premature infants, application of noninvasive and invasive ventilators, advanced life support technology for newborns, PICC technology, etc. Through CPAP, endotracheal intubation, pulmonary surfactant, intravenous nutrition and other comprehensive means, premature infants can successfully pass RDS (respiratory distress syndrome), NEC (neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis) and other difficulties. The department applied new technologies such as exchange transfusion therapy for hemolytic disease due to maternal-infant blood type incompatibility, differential diagnosis of syncope in children by vertical test, bronchoalveolar lavage for refractory lobar pneumonia in children, asthma patient management, standardized follow-up of premature infants, application of growth hormone stimulation test in short children, and health-care effect of chiropractic on sub-health of children, etc. Currently, research projects are being carried out on the relationship between Banna virus and viral encephalitis, the effect of caffeine application on the prognosis of early preterm infants, the clinical value of GH challenge test in children with dwarfism and the changes in VD and IGF-1 levels, and the prevention of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants by aerosol inhalation of low-dose dexamethasone and budesonide. These research projects have filled in gaps in many medical technologies in Yuncheng and made breakthrough progress.
